I was hoping the engine was going to stop..
I went to see the doctor this morning and asked what was wrong with me because I keep going to restaurants and asking for a panda curry.
"Ahh" said the doctor "that sounds like a rare dish order."

This is the humour thread, not the spite thread.
If the picture was a mother from the 21st century then you would be right. But this joke is about attitudes from the past. It depicts a mother from a different time era with an attitude that we now laugh at.
and that everything has a deep meaning
It's like 'In Sickness and In Health' etc now appearing on TV. The real joke back then was about how racist and bigoted Alf Garnett was, however back then some also saw the joke as Alf was funny (and right) in his attitudes. They enjoyed his use of racist words, in fact these regularly got used in a copycat way in schools, workplaces etc. In essence the joke about his bigotry, back then, backfired somewhat.
But now it is different. People do see the joke about his bigotry being wrong and hence it's now on TV not buried in the archives and talked about in hushed tones. Many will surely laugh (in horror) in today's world about it, and I guess virtually nobody would copy his language used.
In the picture, the humour is in cringing at the attitude shown by the mother and cringe has humour attached to it. Ricky Gervais and many others have made entire comedy careers from being deliberately cringeworthy or introducing cringeworthy characters.
