I really like him and couldn't give a toss if he's racist or sexist. He made Top Gear into a decent bit of comedy with some car porn thrown in here and there. I liked the show and it's a shame if it goes.

I'm a huge fan of Bill Hicks. His humour strayed into many areas of controversy - a strong supporter of the use of drugs, vehemently pro-smoking, highly anti-American establishment, etc. He was not for the faint-hearted - but what he was, was honest about his view of the world. 'Cool' people tend to admire Hicks - but deride Clarkson for being similarly forth-right. The only difference is their political outlook.....

I used to enjoy Top Gear. I think the turning point was Hammond's crash in 2006.

My main objection to Top Gear is that I pay for it. If it was on an advertising or subscription based service I wouldn't mind, but if I had the choice I would not spend it on racisim, sexism or classism. I travel a lot for work and it doesn't make it easier when these idiots go around insulting people. When they go and buy a car you could actually afford or that there might be enthusiasts for and then destroy it because they're rich and it's existence offends their upper class aspirations. When they insult our intelligence with these ridiculous staged incidents presented as actual events.

Those defending it on the basis of 'intelligent' 'comedy' should go and watch something that description, like maybe a bit of Stewart Lee. If you can't handle that then don't worry - WWE, The One Show and The Real Housewives of Atlanta will give you all the things you'll miss from Top Gear.
And you know what else? Those safety lids on bottles of sanatogen. There I am trying to get the lid off and along comes my six year old and says "there you are daddy" and it's off in a Jiffy. Someone's gonna get hurt.

You mean the Oxford Graduate pretending to be an East End pub land lord? Not at all patronising.

His show on Planet Rock annoys me. All that camp rock 'power of the universe' rubbish gets on my nerves.

I love watching Top Gear. And Clarkson is capable of making interesting points when he's not shooting himself in the foot.

I would doubt the BBC would let Top Gear go, it generates too much money. He'll be back.

    Is that rhyming slang?

If they cancel TG they can replace it with a Cycling programme.

That'll annoy the horse faced motherfucker.

I don't get the hate, and I tend to find the people laying into him extremely tiresome.
Undeniably there are far more deserving targets....

I read a piece he wrote in one of the tabloids (I can't remember which one - I was reading it while waiting for my breakfast at Sainsbury's) about ISIS.

The basic points he made were entirely reasonable (particularly why is the media allowing these people to name themselves a 'State' - when clearly they are actually a large and very well-funded bunch of terrorist barbarians?)

It was well written, well argued - and funny (his suggestion was that rather than using ISIS's preferred nomenclature that we label the organisation 'Men With Incredibly Small Penises' - wish would immediately render joining them less attractive).

I suspect his envelope-pushing is more about his objection to the curtailing of free-speech, as topics are deemed 'off limits' more and more.

Agreed entirely. Also a big fan of Bill Hicks, and I certainly see the parallels.

Top Gear's been cancelled .. no more programmes from the current series will be shown. Good old BBC seems to forget that it's funded by Joe Public and if 7 million of them like a programme then the BBC should take note. But no they'd rather show the Voice which is now watched by less than one million people and has been universally panned by TV critics as the biggest crock of shit on TV.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

BBC news site is saying the same thing. The next 2 episodes definitely won't air and the season finale is 'unlikely' to air.
