Did Bike Safe years ago but I'm going to do it again August 22/23 in Suffolk.  Riding is like guitar playing inasmuch as you are only as good as your current practice.  Signed up for a track weekend in France (Folembray) for July, not sure the old girl is really suited, but we'll give it a go.
Tried to post a photobucket pic but it won't 'take' - what gives ?

Post to the link to the pic and I'll see if I can work it out.

I know they have changed their site- so if you are accessing via a saved link it might not be valid.
Does the root directory: https://www.bikesafe.co.uk work at all?

As to how much the bike is worth:  it cost me £6,500 to get her looking like that.  If you had it done commercially you are looking at £10k all in. And it's not a skin-deep makeover as everything has been renewed, replaced or refurbed with some upgrades (new wiring loom, all stainless fasteners, braided hoses, Monza cap etc). It's effectively new.

However, I don't think you'd like it.  She's slow, with old-fashioned handling, and quite heavy steering.  Modern bikes scoot past her on a run.  But I'm 60 now, and she suits me for a short commute to work, runs out on sunny days, visiting friends etc  Might show her at the Bike Shed in May.

I wasn't being serious about buying it- just saying that it looks absolutely amazing and I'd love to have something like that myself.
Even better that you did it yourself.

Sure. She's not for sale (at this time ;) ), but that's what she's worth.

I didn't do it all myself.  First seat I ordered (famous supplier but no names no pack drill) was an insult -  sent it back and sourced elsewhere, and that didn't go according to plan either. All of which put me three months behind schedule and I ran out of holidays and personal time.  It looked as if I was going to have to put it off for another year.  Instead I recruited a friendly mechanic to do a lot of the work and we used specialists for the powder coating, paint and wiring.

Been a while since anybody has posted on this thread. What's everybody been up to? For the past fortnight I've been doing quite a lot of work to my fireblade ready for my trip to the TT in just under 2 weeks. The brakes were minging!

    imageimageimage

    Work done so far:

Brakes cleaned, stripped and rebuilt with new pads and seals.
Lowering kit removed. Bike now sits higher at the back but I am back on tippy-toes. Don't mind that as it'll handle better.
Forks completely stripped, new seals, bushes and oil.
New tyres fitted. Pirelli Diablo Corsas.
    Coolant drained and system flushed.

Got some other work to do and I need to have it ready for this coming Friday for it's MOT. Then a couple of shakedown runs next weekend before heading for the Isle of Man on the 29th May. I'm very excited.

Great work. Wish I was going to the Isle of Man :(

    ....on a fireblade :(

I've been mostly having a whale of a time tearing up the new forest, but managed to find time to replace the two crappy little headlights on my sv with a nice powerful 7" chrome jobby.  I've also replaced the back seat with a cowling which looks a million times better and is no loss since mrs MG won't get on the back of it anyway.  Pics to follow when I get a chance.

Changed the air filter a couple of weeks ago as it seemed to be running a bit rich, purely based on the exhaust deposits, but I don't know if it's made any difference.

Going to start hitting Poole quay on Tuesday nights - if anyone else is heading that way give us a shout.

Hi Rob, yes it has been ages on this thread.
TT sound very exciting- we are going next year I hope.

I've been commuting on my Stwiple and sometimes doing some longer rides, but I've mostly been waiting for the uni year to end and then looking at doing some big rides on it.

Still loving the Stwiple, although it is probably a bit small (physically, not cc) for me.
It will be fine for another year.
Looking at bikes for when we go back to Oz.
I think a Moto Guzzi Griso and/or a Dyna Wide Glide will suit me nicely. ;)

Done my CBT last Thursday and really enjoyed it (not ridden a bike for 18 years and even then it was only 3 rides) so the CBT was great and once I finally got use to the clutch I done just fine.

My bike is currently at my fathers farm, and I drop my kids there on a Sat morning so was going leave car there and take bike down to work, but it wouldn't start.

So been up there today and got it going (spark plugs) and took it for a tiny ride (literally 10 mins) and it was hard work. Completely different style of bike to the one I was on the other day but got use to it soon enough. However I kind of switched off completely when I see a car coming towards me down a country lane, he stopped to let me pass and pull in I tried pull off in neutral, over revved when I got it in gear and then sulked back to the farm.

Doesn't sound like a big deal I know but dented a little confidence in me, like I feel maybe I shouldn't on the road on it at all.

Just needs a couple more rides to get your confidence back I reckon. Don't get down and give up, biking is ace!

Bit far for me mate, but I do like a long ride out...so you never know!

Sounds like you're still enjoying it. Any thoughts on longer rides?

Learn from it and become a better rider. We all make mistakes when we ride. Nobody is perfect, despite what some riders might say on biker forums. Trust me they're not. Learning from our mistakes makes us better riders.

Just be careful until you do feel confident, and then set higher standards, so you never stop being careful :)

My new cans are pissing off the neighbours.  They are noisy - even I need earplugs.  Anyone got any suggestions that won't spoil the look of the bike ?  http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv274/AndyP335/Cafe conversion/BlueMaxcafeart.jpg

I had a Remus exhaust on my VFR. It sounded superb and wasn't too loud. It earned me an advisory on the MOT for being louder than standard, but apparently that's down to individual testers and how fussy they are.

Cheers guys, I won't give up because for the other 8 mins of the little ride I was really enjoying myself a lot, even if the sheer volume of the bike was annoying most dogs in the village

Remus expensive and don't want to go custom.  Ethos of the bike is KISS and like to keep it universal/vintage if possible. Like tulips but hear they may be even more noisy. Only good thing is it the sound is not an annoying blare, it's more like a Spitfire just started up outside your house ;)
