306 miles of driving today resulted in Chateau Sporky gaining its first ever dog. Meet Sprocket. Isn't she a sweetie?

    She's a she!

But yes. Also incredibly heavy, very energetic and inexplicably terrified of her own food bowl.

Unusually pixelated for a dog but otherwise lovely. Sprocket is a great name too

She's surprisingly difficult to photograph - that's the best so far and was done from Lady BMcH's tablet. Phones and actual cameras are too interesting and need close-up investigation.

    She's grown a bit already!

Puppies are good things.  We could do with another draw-dog too.

She is an Old English Sheepdog.

There was protracted negotiation; Lady BMcH wanted as large a dog as possible, I wanted as furry a dog as possible, so from Wolfhound vs Spaniel we ended up converging on Old English Sheepdog.

  • Sorry, SHE's cute. She looks as if there's sheepdog in her family tree

  • Good work, sir!

However, you should probably get used to being herded around the house for the next decade or so.

No probs. It's not easy to tell.

There's an awful lot of sheepdog in her heritage - including Digby himself.

I think it's more that Norfolk folk aren't too fussy either way.

    What an absolute cutie.  Congratulations.

  • I had two OE Sheepdogs in my youth.  Incredibly loyal and gentle animals.   Great fun to have around.    Enjoy.

Feeding her will have that effect.

Oh, one thing - the food bowl thing is quite common, and usually results from having one that's either shiny (they see their face in it and get spooked) or clatters as they move it around.

I'd advise getting a heavy, rubber-footed ceramic slow-feeding bowl (helps prevent bloat/gastric torsion too). Solved the problem for our Akita.

It is shiny and clatters a little. She doesn't mind the identical water bowl though!
