As a utd fan, i've always got time for Ronaldo...  Sometimes though, I'm sure he says things just to be the centre of the attention.  He can't face the fact that everyone will be talking about Iceland, so he says these things to get the highlights.

You're Ronaldo ffs, if you can't score against the Icelandic defence, you have to take some blame!

Speaking as a Scot, I'm not remotely embarrassed by Iceland's success. They're a decent team.

Iceland only have a population of 300,000 though, and they have no professional football clubs.

Germany weren't that sharp compared to the last Euros, they look quite vulnerable to a well organised team

It's the opening game to be fair, they dominated and won 2-0 I thought. Typical German early round performance.

Football as a game could be better if (1) the keeper could handle the ball only inside the small 'box', the larger 'box' retained for penalty awards. (2) Similar timekeeping system as used in Rugby. Ref to stop clock during goal celebrations or player injuries/incursions etc. (3) Mandatory 60 seconds 'recovery time' off the pitch for any player injured on the field of play who needs assistance from the team medics. This could be justified under Health & Safety guidelines (4) Penalty shootouts be arranged similar to tie break in tennis. Team A takes first penalty, Team B takes two penalties, Team A takes two penalties, continue sequence until the 5 per side has been taken. Sudden death first go on coin toss and so on.....

I like the penalty shoot out idea, as a spectacle.

The others? Not so much, the goalie one is sacrilege! 

I think that players have to go off the pitch if they receive medical attention then come back on when the ref lets them, but 60 seconds might make them think twice about wriggling on the floor.

I'd have retrospective bannings for play acting, with a panel of ex-players and ref's choosing what's diving and what's play acting-holding the face when hit on the shoulder and whatnot.

The keeper is way over protected these days. A smaller 'handling' area by the keeper would facilitate strikers from crosses and corners. A no brainier if you think about it. IMHO of course.

I agree they're too protected, but more goals doesn't mean a better game to me, if that's what you're aiming for as a result?

Why not just ref the 'keeper in the same way the rest of the players are?

Right then, predictions for tomorrow's clash between the best team in Britain and England

Head says nothing but an English win if I'm honest, they need one and they've got the advantage in every position on the field, barring Bale, probably Ramsey and possibly Williams.

Heart says a backs to the wall display followed by pinching one on the counter or through a set piece.

I'm gonna sit in the fence and go with a draw.

Which would pretty much have us through to the next round.

In fairness Wales sit deep and counter attack through Bale regardless of opposition or results needed!

The thought of Bale v the English defence doesn't fill one with confidence .. it will be hot and humid apparently.

Why a massive defeat?  If England beat Wales, they will be on 3 points still.  Russia would just then need to beat Wales 1-0.
