@stickyfiddle I was channel surfing and caught 20 minutes of Springsteen and Me ( I think it was) and they were interviewing Elvis so I looked it up.

I saw them at the Manchester Apollo in 1983 - they didn't even have a back drop - behind the drum riser was the brick of the rear elevation of the venue.

They were probably THE most entertaining live act I've ever seen.

"The Whiskey and You" by Tim McGraw (written by Chris Stapleton), Ginger Wildheart covered it recently, I liked it and sought out the original. Wow, what a song.

"There's a bottle, on the dresser by your ring,
And it's empty, so right now I don't feel a thing.
I'll be hurting, when I wake up on the floor,
But I'll be over it by two
And that's the difference between the whiskey and you"

Those lyrics absolutely hit me like a train when I first heard them. Along the same lines, Brad Paisley's lyrics seem to do that to me a lot - there's something really potent about them. I think it's a combination of how well the words and phrases fit together, and how straightforward the meaning is put across. I find it a bit boring when people obscure what they mean behind loads of abstract metaphors and make things deliberately vague. I think lyrics are so much more effective when you say exactly what you mean.

It was yesterday, but I went to The Dove in Ipswich and saw the new line up of Ainslies Vibes (Tim has a new rhythm section). They were so tight you couldn't fit a fine weight Rizla between them. Excellent performance. Then we were treated to Richard Everett being backed by a band consisting of Tim, Fergie Fulton (who has previously played bass for Tim in a different band), and Brendan O'Neill (formerly with Rory Gallagher and Nine Below Zero). Another fine performance. They're in Norwich soon so anyone who lives that way should go check 'em out.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

It's been Nick Johnston this evening. Jesus Christ, what a player.

I've also been brushing up on cheesy pop songs for an acoustic covers duo I'll be starting soon... so I've learned "All About You" by McFly and "Year 3000" by Busted. Both are absolutely brilliant songs actually. The McFly one has some brilliant chord progressions.

Skip the interview bits probably but the playing is a lesson in using dynamics and tightness.
