Shit...she's had 8 fits this morning.

Need happy thoughts right now....heading to the vets, looks like it's going to be a valium shot and more painkillers. We think it's the eye that's triggering them.

  • Thanks :) To explain, she managed to scratch her eye a few days ago out in the garden - she went to the vet yesterday to make sure it wasn't infected, but last night it got worse and now she's having the fits. It can't be coincidence that last time she had fits, it was when she had a bad eye infection.

Hope she gets well soon man I hate it when pets are ill

  • Cheers. She's in there now - they've tried sedating her, but she's still seizing for 20-30s at a time. Looks like they're going to have to try bigger options.

I'll be honest...we're in bits at the moment, and I'm seriously worried. The waiting game is something I'm not especially good at when something like this happens.

  • Just had a call from the vet - they had her on a phenobarbitone drip (it's the drug she normally takes to keep the seizures under control). The first two doses stopped the fits, but as soon as they started to wear off she'd have another one. Third time's the charm...she's now sitting up and alert. They think it was a vicious circle; as she was having more fits, she'd get even more stressed and scared, and that'd trigger another one.

They're not looking at the eye at the moment, because they don't want to stress her out. She's in overnight, and they'll look at that in the morning.

Best of luck from the dead household. I don't know how you're coping as I'd be in bits.

I'm not. Well, not exactly. If I may just speak emotionally for a moment...I have to be the one who outwardly holds it together, because my wife and daughter are all over the place. Inwardly, I fall apart every time something like this happens and it gets harder to pull myself back together each time.

Ah shit. Really sorry to hear this. There is more to say, but that's for another time. However, please focus on what a superb owner you've clearly been and that your level of care, attention and adoration gave her a life as good as could have ever been offered.
