Pretty much any Gospel artist... they do all the best intros IMO
I agree with @axisus in to many to mention - Many classics, Layla, Sweet Home Ala etc are great for a reason
Yet sometimes I like songs that start off with little and it builds up as more instrumentation added - Stevie Wonder Master Blaster - Black Eyed Peas I gotta feeling - The drum intro on Toto and Rosanna because a) a great groove and b) few/no drummers can play it properly
I like Billy Idol Rebel Yell

As for "when am I ready?" You'll never be ready. It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it. - pmbomb
Sails of Charon- Scorpions. Uli on top form
Wildhearted Son- The Cult
Hendrix - Voodoo Child - funky guitar, prepares you for the overdriven blues onslaught
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow - delicious wall of sound.
Sabbath - Hole In The Sky - Heavy as anything
Floyd - Have a Cigar - Groovy
And for something off the wall
Coke driven tribal jazz funk
