To be serious for a moment, I also post on a football forum. The blokes on there post some *really* crass stuff; there are a fair number of women on there regardless.

Women don't come here because - and I say this lovingly - we are a bunch of total nerds.

I hate to break it to you... but this IS a private forum... so far as I can see, @Digitalscream owns it, as it is hosted on his server. @TTony is one of the admins, as are a few others. But ultimately, it isn't OURS... as in.. it isn't mine, and it isn't yours, and it isn't Holnrew's... It is theirs. We are here by invitation.

By their very grace, they're running it in a different way to Musicradar and the old CM/FM/Guitarist forums. Because even back then, bedwetters were complaining.

The thing is.. a LOT of you guys are hypocrites. You complained back then about heavy moderation, too much spam, too much off topic content, not enough relevant things being said... but WE are the ones who make this forum a "community" and we make it what it is... and so far all I can see is that you're filling up Lee's webspace with drivel about sexism (every fucking week it seems!), misogyny, stupid jokes about bigby's in every 2nd thread, complaints about me, complaints about Frank, complaints about Jim when he was still around. You whinge about jazz, you whinge about rock, you whinge about Hendrix being over-rated. You keep a Dr. Who thread going for TWO HUNDRED ODD PAGES....

At the same time you've got people like @AntiqueGuitars trying his best to make interesting things like the riff a month, and hardly anybody takes part given the registration figures for this website. You all create a lot of work and hassle for the admin team, stressing them out way more than I ever have, and they never get any fucking thanks for it. You don't add to the community spirit at all, you take away from it. Every single day.

Just a point of clarification (for all)...I own the server, but the forum is owned in equal measure by myself, @TTony and @monquixote - that's the way we want it, and that's what the term "admin" refers to (as opposed to "moderator", which denotes somebody who's graciously offered to sacrifice their time keeping things ship-shape).

Trials Fusion scores are coming along nicely thank you very much for asking. been to busy to play this morning though having laid down about 1/2 of drumming for something I am working on, might work on the guitar part later, or the keyboard.. or I might just play a game whilst waiting for delivery of new fishtank for the conservatory to turn up. who knows... with the fact I make my yearly wage in 7 months(apr-oct) its currently downtime for me so I have many hours to do all the wonderful hobbies I enjoy..

And yet you get to lecture everyone on how things should be?
I don't see why there can't be a sensible discussion on how people behave on here, without having to request moderator intervention or banning.

The way I read it, he's not lecturing anyone on how they should behave on the forum - rather, it seems to me he's pointing out the different ways everybody uses it, as well as saying lecturing on how things should be is probably not appropriate (yes, there's a slight contradiction there, but it's not overbearing).

I like it here and one of the reasons I do is that it isn't heavily moderated like TDPRI or other such fora (sp?).

I think a lot of people are missing the point that Drew pointed out that Holn's comment is surely a tongue in cheek one given a lot of his previous posts?

it's an odd exercise, attempting to attribute an objective measure to a totally subjective activity (like making music). I'm not actually interested if anyone values what I do, I'm not doing it for them, I make music for me. I have no interest at all in recording, what interests me is the pleasure I gain from playing, whether that be at home, in a lesson (when I can afford them), at a session or with the folk orchestra. I know for a fact that in most of those situations I am not the best musician in the room (even when I'm playing on my own it's a close run thing), but that doesn't bother me (though I use mistakes or lack of ability/knowledge as a spur to make me better). For me, nothing beats the rush of playing with a group of other people, even if the music is not the most challenging. Whether anyone else gains pleasure from what I do it completely irrelevant to me. Conversely, some people (who are far more able than I) almost never play live or in a band, for them their interest lies in recording at home, or making guitars or amps or pedals, and that's great. So long as what they do gives them pleasure. Life (and what you do in it) is its own reward, when you die and go to the pearly gates, you're not gonna get an extra fluffy cloud cos you produced an intricate and convoluted rock opera, and you're not gonna get a crappy cloud cos you were in a dad rock band playing covers in a pub. Those activities are their own reward, if you gain pleasure from them. If you're doing them to please someone else, then you've automatically failed at life. And in this game you can't reload a saved game or resurrect somewhere.

Dunno what this has got to do with this thread tho, oh look boobies.
