Yeah a Velostar for a midlife crisis car is just so..... sad.

For 7k my choice would be an MX-5. I only really like the shape of the current car but an older gentlemen would pull off the curvier earlier shapes without a problem.

I'd prefer a hardtop though.

I saw one of those Velostars today in that metallic green colour. It certainly stood out (if that's your thing) but i wonder if you'd ever be able to sell it again after 3 or 4 years.

I like the quirkiness of the Veloster. None of the colours are in the Dulux emulsion catalogue. They all look good, the red is my least favourite. With an initial investment of c£7k, resale after a couple of years shouldn't be a problem, there's always someone looking for something a little different and on a budget too......just like you Emp !

I parked next to a Velostar today. A white one. Bloody ugly. Probably wouldn't have noticed it at all if it wasn't for this tread.

I suspect any update from Emp will be late tonight as he will need to soak his feet from all the walking.

On reflection, considering Emp can actually take the bus to work if he had to, then he doesn't really need a car, which means he can go a bit balls to the wall and may be just get a Porsche. If you are going to do midlife crisis, do it properly at least. A Porsche Boxster is easily within budget, even 986.2 just about as well. If it breakdown, so what, take the bus.
