  • I like Bond films as fairly lightweight easy watch entertainment, the kind of thing you can watch whilst reading something else, but would never now bother going to see them at the cinema. I'd say the more interesting question about it would be...who's going to do the theme song and will be a better one than the last two?!
We need another Duran or A-ha one. Madonna’s was half respectable . Wing’s was a blinder  and i’ll Have to admit to thinking Chris cornell’s Was great even though not a fan of his band’s . A guns n roses  , Ozzy or Aerosmith one would be awesome

  • You can’t have a woman Bond , that’s downright stupid  I would downright not watch that . I’m not saying you can’t have action women super spies  but it just does not fit the franchise or Flemings character . I’m probably the only person who enjoyed the new bionic woman series . Btw do you think denzel Washington or will Smith would be too old to play the six million dollar man if they did a new film? Or cruise or afleck . I would think if he was an astronaut he would have to be younger , but wasn’t Steve Austin supposed to be piloting some sort of heavy lifting craft above the earths atmosphere or have I just dreamed that. Denzel is an awesome equaliser I hope that franchise continues

I’ve always thought Richard Hawley must have a good Bond theme in him?

They were filming at our place a few weeks back. Had a good look at the Astons. Nice motors.

I'd like them to let Radiohead/Thom Yorke do it this time. Their Spectre theme was way better than whatshisname.

Frankly just anyone with a decent singer and drummer and an understanding of string arrangements should work. The National?
I’m hoping Lizzo does it and gets to dance in her leotard during the intro titles.
Lizzo, now that would be something, she had me and my wife in stitches doing her Glastonbury set.

Yes that Spectre one was amazing, there's a video on YouTube where they put the opening sequence to that track and it's beautiful

And Phoebe Waller Bridge polished off the last re-write to ensure the female chracters were 'now' and 'relevant.' Make of that what you will.

  • It is disappointingly clear from that shitshow of a trailer (and I speak as a lifelong Bond fan, reading all the books and watching all the tapes when I was a kid), that employing a Netflix box set producer to re-write and direct what is supposed to be an iconic British action movie has instead just ended up with a generic, hammed-up and overwritten Netflix action-drama episode that has somehow crowbarred in a level of unnecessary story continuity that Bond films don't need and shouldn't have.

I've no idea if you're right or wrong about this film in particular, but that's a good post.  Spot on about the unnecessary story continuity, I hate that aspect of modern box-set TV.

Im not even sure who you’re talking about?

Are you referring to multiple-award-winning BBC talent Phoebe Waller-Bridge who was brought in on a co-writing credit at the last minute to tidy up the script?

Or multi-award-winning director Cary Joji Fukunaga who hasn’t written this one, but has earned huge plaudits for HBO’s True Detective, which is actually fairly unique in *not* having continuity between seasons?

Don’t forget the entire Daniel Craig run has been one continuity since Casino Royale. You don’t have to like it but this movie isn’t “crowbarring” anything.

Yes, two TV series producers making a ham-fisted attempt at a movie, and Fukunaga gave an interview to the BBC stating that he was involved in a full storyline re-write after Danny Boyle left the production.

I almost want them to make Bond a woman just to watch the inevitable meltdown from your Clarkson types.

It would destroy the franchise. The latest Terminator film has bombed and research showed fans thought it too woke. It also had a crap script.

Bond is escapism - an entertaining way to spend a wet Saturday afternoon/evening at the cinema. People know what to expect - Bond a hard-drinking womanising spy, beautiful women, a nasty villain, car chases, fistfights, gun battles, big explosions, and amazing stunts. Bond isn't Checkov. Why turn Bond into a woman? Just pointless virtue signaling.

It's also insulting - we need stronger roles for women but rather than dream up a new character/franchise we'll just shoehorn a woman into a role that used to be protrayed by a man. That's just patronising.

And you mean upset gammons .. :-)

Don’t disagree with any of that at all.

I’d still happily through Bond under the bus and have Jane Bond just to see the amazing meltdowns that we’d see. I don’t recall being more entertained than when Jodie was cast as The Doctor

  • I think the Bond films should be more realistic. He's a 97 year old Scottish alcoholic so more scenes set in wheelchair accessible toilets in Muirhouse where Bond suffocates the bad guy with his incontinence pads. The Bond girls will be district nurses who, in a newly empowered role, meet in McDonalds over sausage and egg McMuffins to plot to overthrow the SNP.
