But I honestly think it's probably run its course and I don't really care what they do with it now.

I'm starting to feel like that.  Bond movies for me are a bit like Eurovision - I love them and never miss one, even though a lot of them are really a bit rubbish.  The Bond movie series is also something of a specialist subject for me at quiz nights (although not to Mastermind levels of detail).

But I'm starting to lose interest.  Even though one or two of the Craig films have been very good, I think the fun element is being slowly eroded.  Whoever they cast next, I have a feeling they'll be so far removed from the original stories, characters and style that they don't really need to be "James Bond 007" films any more.

I think what would actually be interesting would be to have them as period pieces closer to the original books ( although the huge amounts of smoking, alcohol and casual sexism and racism might need some updating). The problem with modern thrillers is that they are so in thrall to modern technology that you have to find excuses for the spy to actually do anything and that the films then date horrendously quickly.
I was thinking of the 2011 Tinker Tailor movie but with violence up to Bond levels.

IMO, they should leave Bond as per the original, don’t change him, he was of his time. Create some new character for a different film series if you like, but don’t make him something Fleming never meant him to be.

Craig is really good but I still prefer Dalton.
I think Dalton could have been great if he'd got the job at a different time - if he'd been 10 years older or 10 years younger - but I don't like either of those two films.
I think that Living Daylights is hands down the best Bond film to be honest.
Me too. Solid book/story as well

Agreed, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was a perfect example of this. That film was unfairly overlooked at the box office, it’s one of the best “Bond” films yet!

Ah well solution found for the feminists.

    Spoiler alert:

Apparently James Bond has a daughter in the new film who goes on to be a spy - Jane Bond perhaps? The franchise is expanding. And woman of the hour, whose idea it was, Phobe Waller-Bridge will write the script

I was reading that a Bond spin off with a female lead Jinx was planned but never got made. This was based on Halle Berry’s character in Die Another Day. So, the female Bond like character idea has been around a while.

OK. I didn't know that .. Halle Berry would have been good. Michelle Yeoh would also have been good. The idea makes more sense than turning James Bond into a woman.

Had they made Jinx they might have been getting plaudits for having made a film with a strong black woman in the title role; bet they are kicking themselves now.

There's a Wikipedia page on Jinx:

The character was very well received. After the film's release, Jinx proved so popular with fans and critics alike that MGM considered developing a spin-off focusing on the character which was scheduled for a November/December 2004 release. It was originally reported that MGM was keen to set up a separate franchise and to be a "Winter Olympics" alternative to James Bond; MGM had originally considered developing a spin-off film based on Michelle Yeoh's character, Wai Lin, in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies. However, on October 26, 2003, Variety reported that MGM had "completely pulled the plug on this project", to the dismay of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson of EON Productions, who were reported to be "clearly furious" about the decision. MGM was reported to have paused development of the film in favour of rebooting the James Bond film series with Casino Royale (2006).

Looks like Tom Hardy is the new James Bond .. he had a screen test in June and bookies have slashed the odds on him after a number of large bets were placed.

Now if he could play Bond in Alfie Soloman's mode ... :-)

If it's true, they can't be planning to get many films out of him, he's 43 now and Craig's last film's not even out yet.

Craig wanted out though .. he wasn't pushed. The made it worth his while to do one more. Hardy can probably manage three or four max.

He's a good actor and I value his work in few movies but not sure it's a Bond material... girls will pee their panties though...

Doing Bond as Alfie Solomons .. :-)

Now that, I would pay to see.

  • Hardy is consistently excellent so while he wouldn’t be my pick is still be very keen to see what he can do with the role.

It's not been confirmed by the James Bond production team yet but bookies are usually right if there's a sudden flurry of bets.

  • Don't get the Hardy love in.

I never thought he was a very good actor (admittedly not really a requirement for the part) and I could never work out what it was that people found attractive about him. Obviously lots of people do, but compared to most "hunky" men he seems a bit meh to me.

I know what you mean. I thought he was good in the Kray Twins film and Peaky Blinders but unremarkable in other roles.

Apparently the rumour mill says Henry Cavill is in the frame.

I think he's rather one dimensional.  Which sounds harsh, as he's played some quite diverse roles, but once you realise it's him you think "oh, it's Tom Hardy".  It doesn't feel like he's conveying much about the character below the surface.

And he looks like a rugby player.
