You wouldn't want to tread on that front wing on the way to a night-time wee. It looks like Lanzarote.

On the subject of coverage :

Who's currently paying for Sky F1?

I got the HD pack when it started so I could have the F1 channel. The HD has now been replaced with a cheaper HD bundle but doesn't include F1 any more.
If I change to the the cheaper HD pack I have to pay extra to get Sky SPORTS.

    Bastards, total Bastards.
I still have mine and I did the same as you

Just dumped Sky, which included HD and F1. I'll have to put up with radio and BBC catch up from now on.

I thought that they were going to stop these super complex front wings?

At least we don't have to look at the nose on the cars on radio.

Normal F1 nonsense with the wing, teams will all work round a new reg, often having consequences the governing body didn't foresee.

Anyone know why half the cars have the proboscis nose? Some interpretation of the rules? They cant have come up with this same wierd idea independently can they?
They had to reduce the height of the nose ,so those without much imagination or cash just added a droopy bit.

I'm sure there's are a far more technical explanation for it but that's my take on it.

Well that didn't last long .. Lewis Hamilton's nose came off and he hit the barrier .. lasted a few minutes on track .. :-)

Mercedes confirm it was caused by a front wing failure .. back to the drawing board.

The Ferrari just looks stupid going round the track like it's hoovering up the track debris .. :-)

I think that many of the noses will be redesigned after three races.

Red Bull has produced the most elegant solution to the new nose regulations thus far. I can see them going through the entire season without modifying it.

I think you're right. Newey always seems to be one step ahead ... the paddock think Mercedes will dominate this year though.

  • I kind of get the feeling most of the teams are thinking "this nose will do until we get chance to copy at the Red bull"

    Newey's comments:

Newey said: "I think it is a shame if regulations create ugly solutions, as we have seen in some of the cars that have been released. It is not a strictly technical matter as we have to design a car that we feel gives the best performance regardless of the styling. But I think the shape of the cars, the sound of the cars, is all part of the drama of F1. And it is a shame if the cars are unattractive."

He also thinks the low nose was dangerous .. a bit late to raise that as a concern ...

I reckon Merc Ferrari and RB will all be quick.

Newey is never wrong, but will he push it too far in reliability terms?

The Ferrari and Merc noses both look like they're trying to split the air sideways with the nose rather than send it directly over/under the nose. Could be excellent if it works.

Apparently most teams are looking at the Lotus twin nose very hard- either to copy or complain. It's certainly within the letter of the rules if not the spirit. Time will tell whether it's quick though.

Clip of Kimi from yesterday to get an idea of engine sounds. Not bad considering nowhere near flat out and only one car.

    They sound like rally cars.

I'm still in mourning from the loss of Ferrari V12s.

BUT... if I ever buy another ticket I won't be upset if I don't need to wear ear plugs.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Boullier to Mclaren is official. He'll be Racing Director, rather than Team Principle.
