I get why they wanted a racing lap but it smacks of FIA desperately wanting max to win. I've never seen a more ridiculous end to a race.

Seemed like the racing director was coerced by red bull at the end. They got in his ear and he played god

You might be right there actually - was it removed from the rules at some point?

IIRC it was something like if 3/4 of race distance has gone then a red flag ends it.

Sporting Regulation 39.12. The safety car needed to stay out one more lap as it has to wait until the lap AFTER the cars unlap themselves to come in.

Yep. Sir Ted of Kravitz says Toto is still in a room, presumably working out whether they want to challenge it and risk the colossal shitty PR. 

This season has shown Masi should be replaced. Whatever today's result he's out of his depth. And they need to re-write the sport regs to fix all this shit.

First protest is internal - then it can go outside to the civilian courts.

They won't give a crap about the drivers, just about whether the rules were followed.
