The amount of time and energy spent on this forum by people telling us they don't like something always amazes me.

I hope even more effort is put into things they are really into.

Sadly in life, I’ve found for folk with that inclination, it takes very little of their time and effort, it comes quite easily.

The knock on effect is that extra effort you hope for, seldom happens :confounded:

We are told he has reinvented guitar tuning
    By whom?
The bearded man: he has named this video, "How Jacob Collier Reinvented the Guitar." He said something about symmetrical tuning across the fretboard or something like that.

I admit I have not watched all of it, and may have missed some other ways Collier reinvented the guitar.

    What's wrong with a capo?
Nothing. I use one, to make intervals that are beyond my reach. But I do not see why he would need one, since his intervals are not unusual and he does not strum like a singer-songwriter. Maybe he just lacks confidence.

    Why is this so moving...

Of course, he samples it at some point and it appears on a subsequent record...

I haven't read past page 4 and I haven't listened to much JC because it's not really my bag, but he's unquestionably a man of immense talent. I actually really like watching him talk about music, more than I enjoy listening to it. That "5 ways to play" video is incredible and honestly I feel sad for folks who can't admit that.

I also don't particularly enjoy Bach or Coltrane but I don't go around saying they were shit - that's obvious bumfluffery.

I missed off the 'rhetorical question' emoji ;)

I've been in an Elbow crowd (admittedly not as large as Glasto) and it was a lovely experience. Fan since forever...and that track is pretty worn out for me...but it does work!

Whilst musical talent doesn’t equate to good songs (that’s in the ear of the beholder after all), give me a Jacob Collier over an Ed Sheeran (who I actually have a begrudging respect for ) every day of the week.
And maybe, at last, there's something we can all agree on.

To update... I have now watched the video with Davids and it's exceptional musician youtubery imo. Davids is always great and Collier's enthusiasm is exceptional

Apart from anything else, I'm gonna have to try that tuning :)

He doesn’t say he has invented anything - it is other people (guitarists) saying he has invented something

he is not a guitarist, and came to  guitar tunings using other instruments’ tunings as his starting point.   Most standard guitarists would not have come across them.  He came very late to the standard EADGBE tuning

    I hope he either
    a) got them to sign a release form, or
    b) paid them royalties
