Yep spent most of yesterday at work coming up with plans as I have a ship that will hit it head on, so been sorting with the master what contingencies we have in place...
I know if we are even a day late most of my customers will say " what storm?"

Once I get my lazy arse together, I'm going out to wrap up the greenhouse in a giant tarpaulin and tie it down with rope.  Once one pane breaks and the wind gets inside, they all go.  The tarp should prevent that, even if a couple of panes blow in with the pressure.

We are expecting 20 foot swells , just imagine being on a ship that rises 20 feet then crashes down into a 20 foot hole in the water over and over again. ... I see the Ferries have decided not to sail... We are due to sail from Liverpool at 0400 tomorrow , we will go to Ireland , and sail into the main storm tomorrow night on the way to the Biscay.

I'm just about to head off to work - I have been mentally preparing myself for the onslaught of customers panic-buying food today.

I see that Michael Fish has predicted that this storm will be less damaging than the 1987 one. Given his history of predictions regarding massive storms, I'd start saying goodbye to your loved ones.

I was on working on a ferry when the 1987 storm came through. A real pain, it took us 13 hours to get back to Dover from Calais. When I eventually got home my garden fences had disappeared, presumably making  landfall somewhere in Holland.

My next door neighbour was the Captain of the Sealink ferry that got washed up on the Warren beach at Folkestone. With typical public-school sangfroid, he described it as "an interesting experience".

The weird thing about this broken editor is the sudden font changes....  I've just read Chilli's post as though he starts shouting loudly at "WARREN BEACH....."  :-)

Just been out in the garden and put the furniture in the shed. Hopefully the shed won't fly away.

Had a look at the trees surrounding the house and have decided to bunk down in the living room tonight lest one of them crashes through the roof and kills me Donnie Darko style while I sleep.

While I hope nothing really bad happens I'm expecting just enough destruction that I can bunk off work tomorrow.
