If you build something it's got to be a twin of some kind.......not necessarily the typical Harley bobber .....I've seen some great BMW Boxer cafe racer builds

Well I’ve done the whole hardtail thing, built and ridden them and can’t anymore thanks to a buggered back. I’ve had twins but of the parallel kind (xs650 being my favourite). But the bike that captured my heart as a kid albeit with a modern twist is what I’m thinking, and this really would be long term as it isn’t going to be easy sourcing the parts or the funds would be a Sanctuary style Turbocharged GPZ1100 Eddie Lawson replica.

The linked site isn’t easy to navigate but you’ll get the idea, 80’s bike with modern running gear (upside down forks etc). I think it would be good therapy and I really don’t see the point in all this space if I’m not going to use it constructively (see what I did there?). I know it’s pipe dreams and all that but positivity is the key.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

@Dominic aye, I'd love to take an R80 and turn it into one of the modern brat-style builds you see around now. For some serious porn just go and browse www.bikeexif.com

I’m also considering the Suzuki GSX1100EFE (I have a love of 70’s/80’s muscle bikes) it looks fantastic and I have history with the GSX engine (easy to work on) and there are a plethora of trick things you can do with it, a rather large big bore conversion being one  :3

Anyone else have plans for a future/long term project? It would be good to keep this thread going with people’s ideas/dreams.

If you love 70s and 80s it has to be a CBX .......I had one in 1980 That had been shoehorned into a Moto Martin cafe racer frame .It was a wide old 6 cylinder lump but it sounded like an F1 car.

The CBX is a lovely lump, I still have all my old issues of AWOL magazines and in one issue there is a nice hardtail CBX and the pipes are a work of art, more bends than the Stelvio pass!

If I was to go the six cylinder route though it would have to be a Benelli Sei 900cc version. My uncle used to take me when I was a nipper to this shop that had one and I used to sit on that thing and dream of owning it. (Although me being me it wouldn’t have stayed standard for long!)

Very nice, I’ve ridden a GSX drag bike too and it was a pig getting round the roundabout at the end of the road.... private road of course officer! Ahem... :3

Ah yes Mr Millyard, what’s the saying? Genius bordering on madness! He has a column in Classic motorcycle mechanics magazine, a good read.

True. Every time I hear a CBX being mentioned, I pop over to Youtube for another listen to this..

There's really nothing else sounds like them, (Except maybe two 675s side by side at full chat :))

Respectfully disagree. Actually, I disrespectfully disagree too.
Your opinions on what is is ugly are totally personal and as such are pretty irrelevant (as are mine).
Seeing Allen Millyard cutting crankcases by hand with a hacksaw, then joining them, to assemble a running engine that was never meant to exist. To me, that's real engineering, full stop.
Thankfully this place is a broad church  ;) :)

On a slightly different note, it's time to be careful out there people, the leaves are dropping, the road temps are getting lower and it's turning into proper winter slime, especially as traffic is thinning.

    Oh and cops, cops everywhere....

Well said old bean. I remember when my late brother took me to pick up my first (road legal) bike (Honda FT500), it was snowing and the brakes were awful not that you wanted to use them in those conditions! Talk about trial by fire, that was a “fun” ride home.

Anyone owned or ridden a MK1 like this?

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F133553276322

My late brother always said it was the bike for me, I can’t believe they still fetch so little money.

50k is a fair few miles.

Here is an X Reg with almost half the mileage: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/202011055834154
