I must've missed this first time round.
It's fuckin hilarious. A wonderful example of what a great film can be made on not a lot of money.
Belgians seem to have a reputation for being boring but this film is anything but.

Onibaba is one of my all time favourite films. I think I first saw it when I was 16 or 17 when I was channel surfing and it came on Channel 4. It pretty much changed my perspectives towards film in one instance. Truly incredible film.
Dont go if you want fields of swaying grass @Sassafras but if you want a laugh definitely go. Awesome entertainment.
(fun fact: Sean Pertweee gets burned alive then scoffed by rabid jocks.)
7 bowls of piping hot ready-brek out of 10
Outstanding performance.
Dismal. 4/10. Awful attempt to do a female Withnail.
Wow!
Within the first 5 minutes you know it's going to be a bit special. The acting, script, costumes, sets are all terrific but best of all is the frequent use of wide angle, even fisheye lens, panning shots and the use of natural light. All goes to make it feel as if you're there on set.
It's also a very funny film.
And a bonus is that none of the 'love scenes' feel overlong and embarrassing like so many other films. Generally I don't like love scenes, they often make me feel like a pervy voyeur.
I've heard it being dismissed as a lesbian chick flick but whoever thinks that is a dick and wasn't paying attention (and probably homophobic).
