Craig would look more at home in a transport cafe than The Ritz. Tom Hardy looks even less sophisticated, and almost certaintly shops in Lidl.

While I like Hardy, he wouldn’t be my first choice.

That's what reports in the papers said. Tom Hardy is 43. Maybe they want older actors .. Roger Moore was nearly in a zimmer frame before he gave up.

If there’s a new PC secret agent (such as Croft), no doubt we will all still watch the film, whatever flavour the main character might be. As long as the locations are exotic, with a decent storyline, it’ll be fine.
I think they should be brave and go for somebody younger. Connery was only 32 (admittedly an old looking 32) in Dr. No. If they ruled out Henry Cavill for being too young that's crazy.

Anyway... I'd never heard of two of the three you mentioned, but all of them are way too old.

I read something about the Enola Holmes lawsuit earlier, apparently it’s more to do with Cavill’s portrayal of Sherlock being more akin to the more emotional character in the later private-domain books, rather than the colder public-domain character that most people are familiar with. I haven’t seen any confirmation either way though, so I’ll happily be corrected.
Having watched the Enola Holmes film I thought it was a clever reimagining of the Holmes legacy, certainly not just a female Holmes. Parallel to the legacy of Sherlock I guess; for my money a female Bond that similarly ran on parallel lines ( or 'within the Bond universe') seems fine.

I think you're both right. There's room in the Holmes and Bond "universes" for additional stories and characters, but yes of course they're just cashing in on established characters - for film and TV producers it must be much easier to sell a project if it's attached to a recognised name, even if it's essentially unrelated.
I wonder if Salt, Red Sparrow, Atomic Blonde or The Rhythm Section would have done better if they'd been sold as "female Bond" films?
