    The Eagle.
21st century shiny white teeth are so annoying in historical dramas. I suspect the horses were wrong as well. Otherwise enjoyable romp. I think the moral of the story is be wary of Scotsmen.
From memory Channing Tatum's horse was a Friesian which is correct for a Roman centurion.  The white teeth I cannot explain.
My muse is not a horse and art is not a race.

Gravity 3D is supposedly really good so I plan to see that. Don't usually go for 3D.

Saw Thor 2 at the cinema this week and really enjoyed it. The best superhero film for me, along with Avengers assemble.

  • Thor: The Dark World.

Some entertaining bits, some decent humour, but Christopher Ecclestone's chief baddie was a cardboard cutout and I didn't really care who won.  6/10.

Finally got to see 'Rush' last week. Brilliant. Caught the BBC4 doc on the '76 season a few weeks ago and the film really did well in recreating it.

Last night I stayed up and watched 2012 on channel 4 (or was it 5?, anyway it had adverts). Utterly hilariously awful disaster movie, but somehow it kept me watching.

It's a tale of future doom set in the past.

  • Both the new Star Trek films.

Fun romps, and I enjoyed spotting the references to the originals

  • Watched Rush with my dad a couple of weeks ago (he's a massive fan of F1 back in the day), really rather good. I had fears it would be a Hollywoodificated version of events, but it was excellent.

Today I finally got around to watching the Evil Dead remake. I'm a massive fan of the original trilogy, so again was concerned when it was announced. Rather than the horror comedy of the originals (well, the last two anyway), full on horror, lots of gore. Some of it was a little predictable, but twas good, though overall I think I still prefer the originals.

Watched Oblivion on Saturday and absolutely loved it, watching it again now. Also 'Susanna Sundfør' where have you been all my life! Bought two of her albums and they are pure class.

I loved oblivion! The style and pace was like an old 70s sci-fi movie.

Another vote for 'Oblivion', loved it.

'Terminator Salvation'. Stop it. Now. It's finished, so no more please. You've beaten the machines, so that's it. Same old, same old.

Not difficult in the second one. Subtle as a sledgehammer.

and porn stars. Though I think zombie porn is unlikely to appeal to anything other than an extremely niche market.

Captain Phillips. Excellent stuff, doesn't feel like a two hour plus film, always a good sign :)

Searching for Sugarman - Got it based on some ancient recommendation on MR. Probably from Hungrymark. It's a documentary on something I knew absolutely nothing about and, as a consequence, utterly enjoyed it. Expertly told. Heartily recommended (unless you already know the story).

Two cheap-and-cheerful zombie romps - 'Pontypool' (which to my dismay wasn't set in Wales but Ontario), which was okay but not worth recommending, and 'Remains' which was fucking dreadful and made me fall asleep.

I watched Seaons of the Witch... for someone with no religious views Cage does quite a few religermouse fillums. But even more dreadful films ... this was both religious and dreadful and perhaps religiously dreadful.

  • ^ We watched that too... awful indeed. :| Burlesque is far worse though, I'm never getting those 2 hours back. :( We went to see Thor 2 on Wed, I thought it was an enjoyable romp, although I echo the comments about not caring who won!
