Watched the new Captain America last night.

Didn't rate it to be honest.

2nd worst film in the franchise so far(behind Hulk)

    Noah.
Not quite what I was expecting. The Watchers seem a bit silly to me.

    The Railway Man:
Depressing. And obviously I can't talk about the ending.

Next up to watch is The Book Thief. I have high hopes for this one.....

    Boyhood

This film was shot over a 12 year period, capturing (in fiction) the life of a boy from age 6 till he goes to college. Very very good but demands you time as nearly 3 hours in length

Another vote for Guardians Of The Galaxy.   The best Marvel film I've seen.  By a long way.

You've seen "Iron Man 2", or "3"? Or "Thor 2"? Or "CA 1"?

There's not many good films in the franchise if you ask me.

I'm always prepared to give the first film in what's presumably meant to be a series a little leeway as it's usually testing the waters a bit - however, assuming they do well enough to justify making more, subsequent ones had better not drop the ball.

Unfortunately, Thor 2, Iron Man 2 and 3 (except for Ben Kingsley) did just that.

Have wisdom. Sir Ben was the single good thing going on there. I only hope Eccleston got a huge cheque for T2.

Following a pub conversation to which I had nothing to contribute, I caught up with some London gangster type films and went for:

    - The Firm
    - The Business
    - The Football Factory

Absolute shit the lot of them.

I saw Expendables 3 over the weekend.

    Law of diminishing returns.

1 was just stupid dumb violent fun (Terry Crews' shotgun), 2 was tolerable, 3 is like getting a film company to follow a bunch of ageing mates on a stag weekend and release it as a 12A.  You need a better reason to make a film than 'It'll be fun.'

As I was typing this, I thought of another analogy:

It's like that bank advert featuring walking football - this is an action movie made by people too old to make action movies.

Just back from Guardians of the Galaxy. An easy 9/10

Brilliant. And I agree with @UnclePsychosis about the backlight line. Not sure how many of the arab kids around me got that though :)

Also saw Locke on a plane, which was well acted and scripted but not very interesting, and Monuments Men which I enjoyed but is well off being a classic.

I spent the bank holiday weekend at Frightfest and saw 22 (I think) films, mostly horror although the scope's a bit broader than that.  Lots of good stuff.

  • Found Cars 2 on French TV but in English. Funny in parts ( no pun intended). Also watched a French kid's film in French. Basically Dennis the Menace. Looked nice, really funny in places, think I know what was going on.

Last Days On Mars - the great acting exposing the bad acting. It has Romola Garai. Watch it for that.
