    Watched Nightcrawler. Outstanding.
After this...and Prisoners...I was starting to thing that Jake Gyllenhaal can do no wrong in my book. So i watched his other recent movie - Enemy. Oh well....2 out of 3 ain't bad.

    Just watched
The Equaliser (Denzel Washington). Denzel's character works at B&Q/Home depot. But his past life is very complicated. He meets a young girl who is being controlled by Russian gangsters. And he takes them on. :-O
Film is very violent but is a great watch. Scored 7.3 on Imdb.

Strangely, these two (Nightcrawler and The Equaliser) are top of my must-watch list!

Prisoners is a great film. The ending is chilling.

Just watched the Equaliser. Good stuff! A lot like Man on Fire, which I fucking love. Denzel plays badazz very well.

Didn't like this much. Ultra formulaic, full of stereotypes and cliche riddled. Man on Fire is excellent, but this is like a tv movie inspired by that, which they somehow cast big name actors in.

  • Watched Calvary & finally watched Wolf of Wall Street.  Both really great films.

Oh, also watched Arthur Christmas yesterday morning - properly good Christmas film!
That is so weird, I watched it then too. I thought I was odd for watching a chrimbo film on New Year's morning, but it's not just me...

I've watched tons of films recently:

Tangled - Really good, I enjoyed it a lot. Nice take on fairy tales and makes Shrek look shit.

Brave - Very disappointing for a Pixar film. Billy Conelly did some ace voice acting, but the character design was ugly.

It's a Disaster - Alright film about a couple's brunch when a terrorist attack happens. America Ferrera is fit.

Hot Rod - rewatched one of my favourites, still funny/silly.

Beasts of the Southern Wild - I thought it was gash

Good Burger - Fun family film. I enjoyed it as a bachelor

Rapture Palooza - Stupid but enjoyable, thanks in part to Anna Kendrick's cleavage.

Stick It - Rock and roll gymnastics, has Jeff Brridges and leotards. Has become a new favourite

Oranges - Hugh Laurie bangs Leighton Meester, the lucky bugger. Typical indie fare.

Small Apartments - Odd film with Matt Lucas being American. I think I liked it

  • It's such a beautiful day.

A surreal film.  However, it's sad, hard hitting and wonderfully written and animated.

    Genuinely made me feel things.

  • Over the hols, I caught up with a few older movies that I've always wanted to watch, nothing from after 1999:

"Blood Simple "(Coen Brothers first feature). Would characterise this as "crude noir". Not impressed.
"The Limey" (Terrence Stamp, dir. Steven Soderburg). Not bad. Interesting use of flashbacks to keep you on your toes. Some good use of footage taken from an old Terrence Stamp movie to pad out the back story.
"Existenz" (dir. David Cronenburg). Cronenburg's take on video games and unreality v reality. Quite unnerving, as you're expect with most of his movies.
"Ghost in the Shell". Excellent dystopian Manga about hunting a hacker through a pervasive vast electronic network. Never really been into Manga but brought back a vibe of "Battle of the Planets" to this 40-something viewer.

Rush (The James Hunt/ Niki Lauda film)....I thought it was very good, especially after watching an interview with Lauda who approved of the (not totally positive) portrayal of himself. A great story, with a good script and well directed / produced.

Dallas Buyers Club. Really enjoyed this too, again a great story well told and raised some interesting points relating to the pharma industry.

Also watched lots of episodes of Turbo Fast with my 4 year old, as he loves it.....it's not quite as bad as i'd feared.

  • Went to see that film about Jarvis Cocker, The Theory of Something or the other I think. It was pretty good and I had no idea he knew so about space physics and stuff.
