Cabin In The Woods. Not bad at all, but honestly, the "twist"?? Yeah, if you are dead thick.

Cloud Atlas - that any good? Same question re Tree of Life too.

last one above, that's lars von trier isn't it?

I watched Antichrist, and that was one of the mos grim films I've watched, thoroughly uncomfortable, lidicrous and depressing. Probably exactly what he intended.

  • Ex Machina was really good.  Worth a watch if you're the kind of person who likes films where there are only a small number of characters and one central story line which gets developed in more detail.

currently watching Longest Day. Haven't seen it all the way through for years, so decided to sack off work for the afternoon and rectify that.

i watched FURY but i think there was a spelling mistake with the first and last letters, it should have been called TURD

very disappointed as the directors previous film 'end of watch' was so good.
i found myself rooting for the germans, the faceless zombie hordes of incompetent germans, just wanting them to wipeout the smug, smartarse yanks.
in every fucking film americans have this smartarse persona - YAWN

    also watched LUCY, dont bother

I rather liked Fury- but then I am a bit of a WW2 and tank fiend. There are some really irritating things about it and some just downright stupid! A bit of a tank wank-fest though!

Lucy I quite like too, but the ending was something of a letdown.

    Interstella

Longer than it needs to be by about an hour, bit of a corny start. People interested in the effects of gravity and time will find something to like, everyone else will fall asleep

Finally got round to watching Zombieland last week. Laughed like an idiot for most of it and the Bill Murray EVH line is to die for :) :)

RED - didn't really grab me.

500 Days of Summer - Pretty good, felt like a good warning against falling in love too fast.

The Wind Rises - Aside from it being the subbed version, not the English dub Film Four promised, it was quite a difficult watch. Not in a bad way, it was just much more mature than I was expecting. Pretty profound and moving. Deals with the subject matter of war in a good way, by avoiding it. It's moved me quite a bit, and is making me reflect on life and all that serious stuff. So in that way it's a complete success. I'll be recording other showings in the hope it's the English version so I can watch again, in a new way.

    Despicable Me 2.

I don't normally watch kids' films (not having kids) but I saw the first one over Christmas and it made me want to see the sequel.

    Saving Mr. Banks

Well-made, worthy comedy/drama about the woman who wrote Mary Poppins and Walt Disney trying to film it.

Emma Thompson as the slightly barking woman with personal issues and Tom Hanks as Walt, a few good character parts, a lot of nice period detail and some mild emotional depth. Nothing special, a bit predictable but watchable enough.

    7/10.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

    Frank,

Was good but to be honest I was disappointed as I though it would be about the legendary Frank Sidebottom.

I was very much against my will dragged to see that. Despite all my best intentions I ended up really enjoying it.

EDIT: referring to Saving Mr Banks, posts crossed I think.
