Season 1 definitely has some watchable episodes, though it's overall aged pretty badly.

Yes you have franchise low points "Code of Honor" and "Justice" but you also get "11010011", "Farpoint", "Conspiracy" and "Hide and Q".

Season 2 has it's howlers as well - it's amazing the step up TNG takes in S3 - "Up the Long Ladder" features one of the most racist depictions of the Irish out side of a 19th century British newspaper, for example.
It’s amazing how many times the Next Gen went somewhere totally unacceptable compared to Those Old Scientists, which culturally speaking is from the dark ages.
It is, but bear in mind the time gap between TOS & TNG was half the gap from the start of TNG to now!
Yup, they are far far from the young upstarts now.

TOS was also for the first two seasons written by some of the finest sci-fi writers going, who had honed their skills on shows like the Twilight Zone and in published works.  For the first couple of seasons TNG had... issues (hacks) in the writer's room.

Also TOS was never "adventures of the cuddly space socialists" like early TNG.  Roddenberry had a late-life change of heart and laid down rules for early TNG, like no conflict between the crew, that didn't really work.

Don't forget as well the famous "Turd season" of TOS - the drop in quality is staggering from seasons 1 and 2, and while some episodes are pure unintentional comedy, like "Spock's Brain", you also get the other episode to give "Code of Honor" a run for it's money as worst in the franchise, "Turnabout Intruder" - which is not just incredibly sexist, it's fucking boring as well.
You are the dreamer, and the dream...

Wasnt sure where to put this.. Didnt seem like it was worth a new thread. So to anyone interested it seems Star Trek has now been sold to Skydance.

There's been a merger between Paramount and Skydance. Not really a sale as such even if it is Skydance now in control.

I hope they don't decide to kill off SNW. It's been amazing, but it is also very expensive.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd
