Do enough people really have the money for a new 'Murphy Lab' Gibson, or to privately buy at top of the range BMW X8, or to pay £200 for a £40 bottle of champagne in a pretentious bar to make selling any of those things for that price economically viable? Apparently there are, and hence my bafflement.

I'm not suggesting we should do the same - just offset made me think of it.
The guitar/music community, for me, was always a place for artists or those with artistic tendencies to come together and be. Fiscal ideals may have a place in that community but when we’re being screwed by a supposed ‘one of our own’ it’s like a slap in the face. I buy and sell guitars because, for me, the guitar is a way of expressing myself and I like to explore the tools I use to do that. It’s now harder to do that which won’t kill me but it can be frustrating.

It's got bugger all to do with music. I have a similar opinion on other 'collectibles', for example old toys such as Dinky and Matchbox cars which trade places in mint condition, still in their boxes; to me there are few things more sad than a toy which has never been played with and loved by a small kid, and I think the same thing about musical instruments.
Trust me, they don't want the Brits telling them how to run their country.
Given the shithole we are turning our country into, the idea of us telling a superpower they do everything wrong is laughable.
How many people do you think would take up playing guitar if they had to shell out £2.5k+ for a basic amp and guitar setup?
