I'm just looking through the free amp downloads and I'm delighted to see someone has put up a Katana MkII :)
    There are some weird ones.

I've seen a capture of a blackstar ht5 too. when I had one I really liked it but in the land of profiling where I can have any amp I wqnt its not top of the list.

Progress has been made - I've managed to swap patches using ToneNet and adjust reverb and it all seems fairly straightforward so far - the big one is going to be can I find a patch where I really like the sound of the demo and get it to sound close to that coming out of my Katana - if that's possible then I reckon that should keep me happy for quite a while :)

Go straight into the FX loop on the Katana?

Is the Katana speaker a "standard" guitar amp speaker like a V30, or is it closer to an FRFR speaker where the the IR needs speaker and cab modelling as well?

When I use my Boss GT1000 through my amp's FX return, I split the signal and turn off any cab and mic modelling and just use the GT1000's preamp simulations. That way I can get a live sound with real speakers on stage and can run an XLR to the FoH with the GT1000's cab simulation.

No FX loop on the 50w combos - I'm running through the clean channel with no gain so it should be simple enough.

I have managed to move patches from ToneNet to the Tonex, and written down the steps until I get used to it, which is a start - I might buy some once I've exhausted the free stuff, but to be honest I don't need that much variety so it'll just be because I want to spend money on something ;)

I've sorted out six patches to get me started (Vox, Fender and a Dumble) and added a Beebo (after the Tonex as putting it first introduces hiss) and that should keep me happy for a while. The Beebo is there partly because there's no tuner in the Tonex yet.

Really pleased with it, I have no idea how close to the real thing it is and don't particularly care, it makes very nice sounds and that's always good enough for me.

How are people combining tonex with fx when there is no loop.... delays, modulation, reverb etc

I use mine in the fx loop of an hx fx and it works fine I have compressor and drives before it, modulation and delay after.

There are loads of videos on YouTube explaining why you don't need a loop which can explain it far better than I can.

Simple explanation is you don't need a loop it's fine to put fx after it

I have mine in the loop of a GT1000 Core. The GT also controls the patches in the Tonex via MIDI. Works perfectly.

  • I’ve just purchased the official Mesa pack that has just been released. You get a maximum of 30% discount if you use Jam points so it works out around £60ish.

It’s very impressive. All of the amps sound really good. I especially like the Mark IIC+ captures.

Just to chime in as I’ve had the full fat tonex unit for a week now . It’s fantastic and has a far better feel and amp in the room sound than any other modeller I’ve had .

I dont know the technical reason why but through headphones it sounds more digital - through the red sound cab it sounds like an amp.

My one criticism is that 50 pct of the stock presets sound lifeless to me but there are so many great 3rd party ones it’s no bother

Hiya, looking for recommendations for some Marshall JCM 800 2203 captures please. DI would be best for my needs, I think.

The (admittedly niche) issue for me is that it'd be really cool to use the Tonex as a USB interface and put FX in an on board FX loop to be able to be recorded via USB.

I don’t own a tonex but I do have Amplitube, today I finally got around to trying the free tonex software. It was slightly confusing figuring it out but I’ve got there now (I think..)

have to admit the few tonex amps I’ve tried so far seem much better than the Amplitube ones. I’ve always been fairly happy with Amplitube but I fear I’ve opened Pandora’s box now!

tonex seems fuller, warmer and just bigger. Quite tempted now to get the tonex pedal, I would most likely use it going into my fryette ps2 and proper cab. Is this likely to work ok? Can you find captures that are just the amp with no cab?

That should work great.   There are loads of di captures that don't include a cab, lots of free ones on tonenet and I use that to find the amps I like then order a full pack from amalgam to give all the option for captures with different gain and eq settings.

Yes. Amalgam do some. They're labelled as DI rather than Amp+Cab.  I believe they are taken after the power amp but before the speaker out. I've not tried any.

Hiya, looking for recommendations for some Marshall JCM 800 2203 captures please. DI would be best for my needs, I think.

    I would check out amalgam.

I have their JCM 800 pack and it's incredible. Not sure if it's specifically a 2203 but I'm sure their site will tell you.

I have an amp and cab set but they do most of them in DI versions too.

They have spring sale on at the moment 3 packs for the price of 2, or 5 for 3.

Tbh they are a bit like DFS and seem to always have a sale on but i've got several of their packs and they are top draw.

I've given in and ordered one.

Thomann have silver 'Thomann 70th Anniversary' ones for £299 that come with a £50 tone pack.

Hopefully be delivered middle of next week.

You know...I originally thought the TONEX stuff was total rubbish, just a toy for mucking around at home like Amplitube.

The more I use the One, though, the more convinced I am that I'd be totally happy to gig it, maybe even direct. I'm pretty limited in the captures I've been using (to be honest, mostly one of the ADA MP-1 captures), but it's absolutely nuts-on and gives exactly the feel I'm after from a high-gain rig.

I think I'm even more impressed with this than I was with the Helix.

Cheers guys. I’ve just ordered one, was considering the One but I think the extra controls will come in handy. My plan is to incorporate it on my board with my hx stomp.
So Stomp for effects, tonex for amps. Let’s see if I’m happy with it!

That pretty much sums up my thoughts too. I’m getting a lot out of the plugin for my high gain needs. Like others above me, I’m seriously considering the full fat pedal now, too, to form the basis of a high gain, amp less, pedalboard.

Funny enough, I accidentally downloaded their 800 + cab pack today, not realising they do DI only packs, which I spent a further few quid on when I realised! Doh. They sound tidy, any tips on best ways to tweak to get the best out of them? They sound a tad on the weak side but perhaps that’s a problem with me than with them. I don’t think they’re far off though. Thank you for your advice.
