I couldn't bring myself to spend £150 never mind seventeen hundred quid on a controller, steering wheel with pedals or not.  I just couldn't justify it, not even to myself as a treat, something I'd been saving up for..... I can't, maybe it's the stingy bugger in me.  The prices are shocking me, and I haven't even read any of the specs or features yet to see what yor're getting in a seventeen hundred quid steering wheel - it doesn't look like it will make me a cup of tea though.  Five hundred quid on a PS5 I can justify, £60 - £70 for the odd game I can justify, but not 30% of the price of the hardware the accessory is for, that's like putting fifteen hundreed quid alloys on a two grand banger to me sorry.
It’s not your thing and that’s absolutely fine. But it’s literally not the same thing at all.

The PS5 is not equivalent to a ‘banger’. It’s cutting edge hardware and the steering wheel is meant to give you a realistic racing experience. You have to pay for a specialised piece of hardware.

For what it’s worth, let me explain a bit more.

I used to ride bikes on track. Setterton, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park. I used to ride bikes all round the country in motorcycle groups. I’ve also done a couple of car track days but primarily I did this on bike.

I’ve also drove my Mountuned Focus ST all round Europe in the mountain passes of Switzerland, in the alps of Australia, the autobahn in Germany. I have always loved driving and riding.

This allows me to replicate that somewhat. And now that I have stopped riding because I had a bad accident where I nearly died and fractured my spine, and had children, and had to get a family car, the wheel allows me to race-sim and enjoy something very distantly related to actually racing.

Any even if I didn’t have all that behind me, it’s just fun, innit. So don’t worry about justifying something to yourself that you’re not going to do and that you don’t seem to really get anyway.

The download appears to have bricked my PS5. After the first 10gb it said I could play, but when I pressed it the PS5 just turned off. It came back on momentarily to say it had to repair the drive, got to 100%, turned off and now it's just been flashing blue for ages.

    eek! not good.
I wonder if it's a similar problem that some people were seeing with Horizon?

You could try following the same recovery steps?

I assume you've got plenty of free space?

If this rebuild database doesn't work then I've tried everything short of a factory reset. My saves are in the cloud so no big deal I suppose, and the console is still in warranty.

Eesh it said it might take a few hours, but it just went straight to the PS symbol, stalled and turned itself off again  :# I'll just factory reset it.

For any one who doesn’t live too far from Milton Keynes.

The Pixel Bunker near Centre MK is a great place to play the old arcade games we all grew up with. I spent 2 hours hopping from one machine to the next for free after paying a £12 admission.

Needs a Penny Falls machine to be a proper arcade.

Yeah I meant £70 per game in the context that Microsoft now give all their exclusives on GamePass day one. Forza Horizon 5 was released on GamePass for example. Once you get used to that, paying our for a single game, feels like a bad deal.

Agreed, there is another one in Bury near Manchester that is meant to be good.

  • I have a PS5 and honestly, I'm bored with it. There's nothing I want to play on it. I started Death Stranding, hoping for more Metal Gear style madness and (unreasonable expectations aside) I'm bored of it.

I fancy GT7 but I'm no car geek and fear it'll bore me senseless. FIFA doesn't look as good as it used to be.

Long story short, I bought a Mega Drive and a few games and I'm enjoying the retro gaming experience. I might actually buy an Amiga 600 and possibly a Game Boy and relive my childhood! Tbh, that excites me much more than modern gaming right now.

So what are thoughts on GT7? Worth buying a PS5 for?

I bought an XBox for the first time ever this gen, mostly due to availability, but I’ve been totally blown away by GamePass, it’s amazing. GT was one of my fav games as a kid so I’d happily get a PS5 if it’s that good, but the thought of paying £70 for a game now will be difficult to swallow.

I've said this before, but £70 is a cheap game. I have mega drive games that have their original price tag on - £45!

I  remember them being expensive, didn't remember them being that expensive.

Think i paid £60 for snes street fighter 2.

they were expensive as memory was expensive at the time (mask roms).
1982 atari vcs carts were £30 for a 4k mask rom.

I think I’m finally making slow progress in Elden Ring…. Defeated 2 dungeon bosses, got my horse as well. Managed to level up to about level 16 Astrologer as well, and defeated some invasion bloke to get a nifty dagger that causes bleeding.

Haven’t even taken on the guard encampment by the castle yet.

Went wondering and ended up in a wooded area with giant bear things, and found a dungeon in some kind of round building thing.

As you can tell, I’m not really paying attention to the lore.

Death Stranding was to me, very dull.

I’ve got all the consoles and while I’ve never bought a game for Xbox because of Gamepass, I still think the quality of games on PlayStation, right now at least is better.
