  • I think we all agree that he's one of the best F1 drivers ever but the helmet design in Brazil is fucking atrocious.

More concerned about the FIA. Vettel gets off what should have been a slam dunk penalty as does Hamilton. FIA double standards.

  • Vettel should have been penalised. A man in a car ignoring a Brakes On sign from an official is an arse.

And Hamilton blocking someone and then moving while going slower isn’t?

Even I think that Hamilton is lucky re the move in front of Stroll - wasn't intentionally malicious (imo) but still bloody dangerous

Ditto Vettel - put a steward in danger
    Red ones are better.

With two drivers on track there is the possibility of misinterpretation. Both drivers are in fireproof clothing and crash helmets inside of an incredibly safe piece of engineering designed to keep them alive in the event of a high speed impact. Sirotkin pushed hard on an out lap when others weren't. That four second gap to Sirotkin as broadcast on the Merc team radio got short rather quickly, probably down to a bit too much Russian gas (his out lap was almost as quick as every other lap he did).

Officials in the pit lane on the other hand don't have a load of protective gear around them. When you're disobeying a clear instruction because you want to get out quicker, you've being a shithead.

Vettel should have been DSQ from the event like everyone else that thinks being weighed is optional.

Lewis should have been penalised for Kimi who he partially blocked and forced wide on a hot lap. It's a slam dunk penalty. Others have been penalised for similar offences. Looks like the FIA want to keep the constructors championship alive. Poor decision.

  • I haven't seen the telemetry or heard the radio communications. It's harder to explain away that the Sirotkin incident.

There have been a number of contentious decisions this year. One wonders if these are causing a lack of respects for officials in general. On the face of it, there seems to be more griping and shit stewarding moments in F1 than any other form of motorsport that I watch.

It's the lack of consistency in applying the rules.

If they’d wanted to keep the constructors championship alive they’d have penalised Hamilton - without that penalty, Merc are on course to wrap up the championship this race, they only have to score 12 more points than Ferrari. Penalizing Hamilton would have made that less likely.

Not really. Ferrari could get a one-two today. Toto admits they have the better car and strategy and thinks the Mercs could be behind a Red  Bull. The Mercs don't have race pace due to their tendency to chew tyres. Ferrari can go long whilst the Mercs will be pitting pretty quickly and may need a two stop strategy.

Jenson Button and Naoki Yamamoto secured the Super GT title for Honda in a tense Motegi finale, as ex-Formula 1 champion Button resisted a determined charge by Ryo Hirakawa in the closing stages .. :-)

Both Hamilton and Vettel should have been penalised.

Hamilton was daydreaming and could have caused a massive accident - a 5 place grid penalty would’ve been appropriate.

Vettel’s incident was, in my eyes, more serious.  Driving at race officials because you feel that your qualifying session is being spoiled is frankly inexcusable and conduct unbecoming of a World Champion.  He should have been sent to the back of the grid at the very least.

The worrying thing is that neither of them appear to think that they did anything wrong.

Hamilton tried to get off the racing line twice and held his hands up on the Kimi incident.

The shot behind Vettel when he left the weighbridge is shocking, he could have caused serious injuries to the officials, for that he should have received a race ban, and not being weighed is an automatic DSQ from the event usually.

Exactly. Everyone bar Sirotkin was on an out lap. Sirotkin himself said that his outlap was nearly as fast as his best time. You can hear the Mercedes team radio indicate Sirotkin was four seconds behind. Hamilton has moved off the racing line when he realises that there's a fast Williams coming up behind him at a time when nobody is expecting that to happen.

The Kimi incident was a mistake. There's no attempt to hide it and his reaction on the radio again suggests he's not out to block.

The Vettel incident is rotten to the core. There is a clear procedure in place. He shits on it. For those who haven't seen the reverse shot:

On the face of it it looks like a small incident. It isn't. The procedure is done that way to protect those around the car.

  • Brazil is generally a good race. Ocon and Max... yeah. Ocon fucked up.

Still, it gave this gem on the radio:

"It's as hard as they can get with Esteban Ocon without disqualifying him. To be honest, I'd disqualify him. I can't remember a worse piece of driving in Formula 1. Was it intentional? I can only imagine it was intentional. He was trying to pass the race leader as a back marker.

Let's face it Jolyon, you'd recognise bad driving.
